Euphoria Season 3 Review: Ratings, What Changed & Is It Worth Watching?

Euphoria has always been a show that inspires strong reactions. Season 1 arrived in 2019 as one of the most visually distinctive and emotionally raw pieces of television in years. Zendaya returns as Rue, whose recovery arc continues to evolve. The character is older now — Season 3 moves the timeline forward slightly — and the show grapples with what Rue's addiction and its aftermath look like beyond the immediate crisis of Season 1 and 2. It is a more mature, less explosive version of the character, which will satisfy some viewers and frustrate others who found Zendaya's most raw, destructive moments the show's creative peak.

Sydney Sweeney (Cassie), Jacob Elordi (Nate), and Hunter Schafer (Jules) are all still central, though reporting during production suggested several cast members had renegotiated reduced episode counts. The ensemble feels slightly leaner than Season 2, which is mostly a positive development.

Tone and Subject Matter

Season 3 is still unambiguously adult content — explicit drug use, sexual content, and unflinching depictions of trauma are present. But the tone has shifted toward something slightly more contemplative. The clearest critical divide is between reviewers who find the Season 3 recalibration a step in the right direction and those who find it a retreat from the show's most ambitious instincts. Variety called the premiere "Euphoria finding its footing again." The Guardian found the first four episodes "impeccably made but emotionally cautious." Both assessments are consistent with the same viewing experience. Whether "more disciplined" reads as "improved" or "safer" depends on what you valued in Seasons 1 and 2.
